As we kick off 2025, a year that will undoubtedly be a historic year for our organization, we want to publicly welcome a new addition to the Homeward Bound Villages Board of Directors, Ms. Dale Cooper. As an organization that is growing sustainably, we actively look for committed community members to champion our cause and join our mission. Dale heard our call and has joined our board of directors. We sat down with Dale earlier this week and asked her a few questions about her recent appointment to our board so our community can get to know what a truly special person she is and the vision she brings to our board.
What excites you most about joining the Homeward Bound Villages board of directors in 2025, and how do you see yourself contributing to our organization’s mission and future growth?
This type of movement is what I believe in and have wanted to be a part of since I heard about it a couple of years ago. I have helped those experiencing homelessness and underprivileged communities all my life. I can connect with members of the community who help advance projects that I work on.
Throughout your career journey, what’s been one of your most meaningful professional experiences, and how has it shaped your leadership approach?
I have been a member of the Michigan City Public Arts Committee for 6 years. We lease and place art in public spaces. We have also been commissioning murals in neighborhoods. I have also personally raised over $150,000. each year for the past several years for children’s programs. I believe creativity helps you in any field you choose to go into. The earlier you start, the better.
Outside of your professional life, what are some of your passions or interests that influence how you approach business and leadership?
My personal life is what influences what I do for work. I love culture and beautification. I serve on boards such as the Center for Creative Solutions, the Dunes Diversity Committee, the Lubeznik Center for the Arts, and Vibrant Michigan City. I am a working member on all of those boards and take my duties seriously. I truly believe in service to my community.
Looking ahead to your first year on the board, what particular areas or initiatives are you most keen to engage with?
I want to be very involved on-site. I am extremely interested in the community aspect of this vision. I can’t wait to help!
We want to thank Dale for taking the time to answer a few questions so that our supporters can get to know her better. Thank you, Dale, for your commitment to our cause and our mission. We are excited to have you join us for 2025 and beyond, working together in partnership to bring cooperative, affordable housing to our community.
