Over the past six weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of introducing Homeward Bound Villages to our community, and we’re thrilled by the warm reception we’ve received. As we wrap up this initial phase of our outreach, we’d like to recap our journey and highlight the key aspects of our mission to create affordable, cooperative housing in La Porte County.
At the heart of Homeward Bound Villages is our commitment to creating community through affordable housing. We believe that everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home, and we’re working tirelessly to make this a reality in our area. Our cooperative living model isn’t just about providing housing; it’s about fostering a sense of belonging, mutual support, and shared responsibility among residents that positively impacts the entire community.
Throughout our discussions, we’ve highlighted the critical need for affordable housing in La Porte County. The statistics are clear: many of our neighbors are struggling with housing costs, often paying more than 30% of their income on rent. This housing insecurity impacts every aspect of life, from health and education to economic stability and community engagement. By addressing this need, we’re not just helping individuals and families; we’re strengthening our entire community.
Our cooperative model sets Homeward Bound Villages apart. We’ve shared how this approach benefits both residents and the larger community. For residents, it offers affordable housing paired with a voice in their living environment. For the community, it creates engaged citizens and stable neighborhoods. Economically, it keeps housing permanently affordable while contributing to local economic growth.
We’ve been overwhelmed by the interest from our community. From volunteers offering their time and skills to local businesses and organizations stepping up as partners, it’s clear that the spirit of cooperation extends beyond our village model. This community involvement is crucial to our success, and we’re grateful for every person who has engaged with us. However, this project requires a significant amount of support from the community, and we are actively seeking more volunteers, funds, and partnerships.
We’re excited to report that Karwick Village, our first development, is making steady progress. From initial planning to community consultations, we’re moving forward with purpose. While we still have a journey ahead, we’re more confident than ever in our vision, thanks to the support and input we’ve received from the community.
Throughout our discussions, we’ve emphasized our commitment to sustainability. Karwick Village isn’t just about providing affordable homes; it’s about creating a sustainable, eco-friendly community that will benefit residents and the environment for years to come.
As we move forward, we have big plans. These include completing and launching Karwick Village, expanding our outreach and education efforts, advocating for policies that support affordable housing, and exploring opportunities for future developments in La Porte County.
Community support and engagement are invaluable and necessary for us to complete this project, and we hope you’ll continue to be part of our journey. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word about our mission, every action helps us move closer to our goal of creating affordable, cooperative communities.
We’re deeply grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received over these past six weeks. This is just the beginning of our journey, and we’re excited to continue working with you to create a stronger, more inclusive community for all in La Porte County. Thank you for getting to know Homeward Bound Villages. Together, we’re building more than just houses – we’re building a community.
