We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey to bring much-needed affordable housing to our community. Through a collaborative effort between La Porte County and Michigan City, we have secured matching funds from the American Rescue Plan, marking a crucial step forward in our mission.
“This funding is a testament to our community’s commitment to working towards ensuring everyone has access to safe, affordable housing,” says Sandi Keller, President of Homeward Bound Village. “The matching support from both our county and city leadership demonstrates the strong partnerships we’re building and our shared vision for an inclusive community where everyone can thrive.”
This matching grant, combined with the generous support we’ve received through our year-round fundraising efforts, has enabled us to move forward toward site development work. This achievement means we can now move forward with site development and begin construction on our housing units. We’re optimistic about welcoming our first residents before the end of this year.
The path to securing this funding was not short. It required dedication, persistence, and countless hours of collaboration between our team and local government partners. However, the result speaks to what we can accomplish when we work together toward a common goal.
As we prepare to break ground, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported this initiative. From individual donors to local government officials, from community advocates to business partners – each of you has played an essential role in helping us achieve this milestone.
Our organization remains committed to addressing the affordable housing needs in our community. We’re honored to have community support for our mission to create community through affordable housing. As we move forward with site development and construction, we look forward to sharing our progress and continuing to work together to create housing opportunities that will make a real difference in people’s lives.
