We’re excited to announce a significant milestone in our housing development project. Homeward Bound Villages has officially awarded the site development contract for Karwick Village to Pavey Excavating, marking the beginning of the physical transformation of our future community.

Comprehensive Site Development Plan

Pavey Excavating will be handling several critical aspects of the initial site development at Karwick Village:

Coordinated Approach to Development

Our Construction Manager, Jimmy Pressel, will coordinate with NIPSCO to ensure gas and electric utilities are installed at the appropriate times during this phase. This coordination will happen in conjunction with the excavation and concrete work to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption.

Strategic Sequencing of Construction

We are taking a strategic sequencing approach to site development and foundation work. Given the planned density of homes and the limited space on site, we’ve chosen to integrate foundation and sidewalk concrete work during the excavation phase instead of trying to complete all excavation beforehand.

This integrated approach will help us avoid potential difficulties that could arise if we try to bring in foundation contractors after full excavation. By coordinating these elements from the beginning, we’ll create a more efficient construction process and potentially save time on the overall project timeline.

Thank you, Pavey Excavating, for supporting this approach.

Moving Forward

This contract award represents an exciting step forward as we begin the physical construction of creating our cooperative community and affordable housing development. We’ll continue to share updates as construction progresses.

The groundwork laid by Pavey Excavating will provide the foundation for our community-centered housing model, creating the infrastructure that will support generations of affordable housing in La Porte County.
