Today, we are thrilled to announce the official groundbreaking ceremony for Karwick Village, Homeward Bound Village’s first cooperative, affordable housing community in La Porte County. After countless hours of planning, partnership building, and successful fundraising, we’re ready to break ground on this project to transform lives and strengthen our community.

This groundbreaking ceremony at Karwick Village marks the official start of site development and construction on our affordable housing community. This milestone represents more than just the beginning of construction—it’s a testament to the power of community collaboration and persistent dedication to affordable housing in our community.

Through the support of our generous donors, community partners, and local leaders, we’ve successfully completed our Phase One funding goal, allowing us to move forward with site development and begin constructing the first affordable housing units that will make up Phase 1 of construction and serve our community for generations to come.

Join us as we celebrate this achievement with many of the individuals who helped make this project possible. Local officials, community stakeholders, and referral partners have been invited to join us, sharing in the excitement of what this development means for our community’s future.

“This groundbreaking represents the beginning of a new chapter in our community’s story,” says Sandi Keller, Homeward Bound Villages President. “Every shovel of earth turned at this ceremony represents a step closer to providing families with safe, affordable homes where they can build their futures as a cohesive community.”

The development will feature twelve units in total for up to twenty-four people. Each unit represents not just a home but an opportunity for individuals and families to establish roots, for children to grow in a stable environment, and for our community to become stronger and more inclusive in our cooperative community setting.
